A statement that a person can read
In the morning, you log into online banking and look for amounts that resemble advance payments. The variable symbol is off by one digit, the name is listed in the notes, and meanwhile, the front desk is calling the guest to say they can’t see the payment. He sent it yesterday.
A statement that matches the transaction
The FIO integration pulls in the transactions, and the matching process looks for the variable symbol. Pay by Square does the same for QR payments: the symbol is generated with the document, not as a number you dictate to the guest over the phone. When the payment matches, the reservation or invoice will reflect it.
The system won’t generate an incorrect symbol. It will show you what doesn’t match so that you don’t match a payment that isn’t yours just because the amount was similar.
