The Room You Sold Twice

It’s listed as available on the website, but it won’t be on Booking.com for another hour; a corporate client has a verbal reservation. At six o’clock, two guests and one key card are standing at the front desk. The apology costs more than the commission you hoped to save by turning off synchronization.

That’s why a channel manager isn’t “just another portal.” It’s the place where room availability and prices are sent out, and where reservations are fed back into the system.

What Must Match

Availability and rates are sent to Booking.com, other channels, or STAAH, and the web booking system sees them simultaneously. A new portal reservation will appear in the same booking calendar as a direct sale. The calendar flags conflicts between stays in a room; this is not handled by the morning update.

Last year, you handled this by comparing two calendars. Now there is only one source. An exception you make on just one portal will come back within an hour as a guest you have nowhere to place.

  • Single availability for OTA and your own website
  • A price that won’t disappear from the table outside the system
  • Bookings from the portal appear immediately in the schedule
  • Warning about a conflict between two stays in the same room

Corporate allotments are not exceptions outside the booking calendar

If you’re holding rooms for a company, keep them as a block in the calendar, not as a promise in an email. Otherwise, the channel manager will happily sell them to another guest. The inventory is the only map that even the night shift trusts.
